Overview The EPA has initiated a full reassessment of chlorthal-dimethyl containing substances because information about its risks to human health and the environment shows the risks from its use outweigh the benefits. The approval for chlorthal-dimethyl-containing substance (i.e. HSR000646) will be reassessed under section 63 of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (HSNO Act).  Reassessment of chlorthal-dimethyl containing substances – proposed ban: EPA public consultations  EPA proposal: immediate ban with 6-months for disposal We propose to ban the use of chlorthal-dimethyl by revoking the approval of chlorthal-dimethyl containing substances. The ban would mean chlorthal-dimethyl containing substances can no longer be imported, manufactured or used in New Zealand.  The ban would be immediate, with six months to dispose of any existing stocks of chlorthal-dimethyl products.  View our proposal and assessments of risks and benefits (Addlinks)To initiate this reassessment, we completed the reassessment application form.
